This is my first post on WordPress. (insert quiet golf clap).
If I’m going to be writing more and trying to get my words in front of more eyes, this seemed to be a better way to do it than Medium. Don’t get me wrong, that’s a great place to write, but I think this will be a little easier to scale up if and when I need it, and it’ll be easier to interact with readers. The goal is to reach people – not to become popular or public, but just to show people that they’re not alone in their struggles, that they’re not alone period. Hopefully I can import my blog from Medium without too much trouble. Over the next while I’ll tweak this to make it more “me” but for now it’s pretty basic, complete with stock images, placeholders, etc. This will be a work in progress, maybe I’ll even learn a bit of basic code (CSS or HTML) if I’m feeling ambitious!
I’m realizing that I have a gift for writing. People seem to “connect” with what or how I write. To let that go to waste would be foolish. To let my experiences with depression and life in general just remain hidden I think would be hiding something valuable. No, I’m not trying to blow my own horn…but if I share my experiences and thoughts through writing, and someone, somewhere finds hope or encouragement from it – then I’ll gladly say it’s been worth the struggle. If my writing convinces even one person to step back from the edge of the abyss and seek help instead – then I’ll gladly carry this sickness to my grave.
There’s plenty of hurts and craziness and chaos in the world. Maybe, just maybe, I can bring a little bit of calm to someones world. Because there’s this dude out there, his name is Carlos Whittaker. His post about having anxiety was (and is) influential in me seeking help. His tag “It’s Better That Way” keeps coming back to me. I may not be a church musician, or pastor, or church speaker, or author. But I do know I have a gift of words, I have some experiences, and some thoughts that have come out of them. Now it’s time to put them together, and get serious about raising my voice. Because maybe (as Los says) “It;s better that way.
** As of today (Aug 12, 2017) this is not the final layout or look for the site. There are lots of missing pictures and features. That’s OK. I’ll slowly get this together. The next step is to import all my stuff from my site over on Medium and get that all squared away. Once that’s set I’ll have to figure out how I want this whole thing to look – for now anyway.
